NIKA-TERA resume handling of nitrogen fertilizers

Specialized sea port NIKA-TERA, a member of Group DF, resumed transshipment of nitrogen fertilizers. In particular, 2 vessels with ammonium nitrate of Ukrainian origin were successfully loaded at the third handling area. This batch was exported to the Indian and Turkish markets.

 

“For the first time in the last 5 years, our seaport resumed the transshipment of nitrogen fertilizers, – commented Mr. Alim Agakishiev, Harbormaster, SSP NIKA-TERA.   – I very much hope that the output of Ukrainian chemical industry would keep on growing and the export would grow up accordingly. My understanding is that whether the chemical industry would grow or decrease would depend on how effectively would the Government and Inter-Governmental Commission on International Trade protect Ukrainian market of nitrogen fertilizers and Ukrainian chemical industry workers. When the output and export of mineral fertilizers grow, Ukrainian seaports would be able to better load their capacities and, consequently, earn more”.

According to Mr. Alim Agakishiev, timely upgrade and modernization of equipment allowed the seaport to achieve high rates of cargo handling.

 

“Our seaport is using the most advanced equipment at all stages to handle the cargo. It is for this reason that we are capable of ensuring the high rate of transshipment. This is our competitive advantage,” underlined the harbormaster.

NIKA-TERA seaport is located in Mykolayiv region and operates 8 commercial berths with the total length of approx. 1900 linear meters. Seaport includes 4 specialized facilities (handling or cargo areas): grain handling facility, fertilizers, cereals and meal handling facility, loose cargo handling facility with ground storage and liquid bulk cargo handling facility.

 

In 2019, the seaport handled 410 vessels and transshipped 8,637,000 t of cargo. Compared to 2018, the turnover went up by 2,800,000 t or by 48%. In Q1 2020, the seaport handled 1.87 million tons of cargo, which is by 1.5% more compared to the same period in 2019.
