Dmitry Firtash is the founder and Chairman of Group DF, which was established in early 2007 to bring together his business interests in energy, chemicals and real estate. Over the last fifteen years, he has become one of the leading gas trading and distribution experts in Eastern and Central Europe, and has subsequently developed a broader portfolio of business operations which extend across Europe.

From a commodity trading background in Ukraine and Russia in the late 1980s, Mr. Firtash secured his first gas deal with the Turkmen government in 1993, in exchange for fresh produce supplies. Throughout the 1990s he continued to oversee food exports to Turkmenistan and gas imports to Ukraine. He established a partnership with gas trader Itera to conduct the exchange between Turkmenistan and Ukrainian state owned oil and gas provider Naftogaz. This partnership was conducted through Highrock Holdings, formed in 2001. At the end of 2003 this business was transferred to Eural Trans Gas, founded by Mr. Firtash in 2002.

The business relationship with Gazprom, the Russian energy corporation, was formalised in 2004 with the establishment of RosUkrEnergo to distribute gas from Central Asian states to Ukraine and European Union countries. Mr. Firtash’s interest in RosUkrEnergo is held by Centragas Holdings AG, based in Vienna, in which he holds a 90 percent stake, alongside business partner, Ivan Fursin, an Ukranian businessman. Until April 2006, Centragas Holding's stake in RosUkrEnergo was held in trust by Raiffeisen Investment.

Since 2002, Mr. Firtash has actively invested in chemical businesses and has built up a significant portfolio of interests in titanium, soda ash, mineral fertilisers and other products. In 2004 these assets were consolidated into OSTCHEM Holding AG. He has also invested in a gas distribution and services business in Hungary, EMFESZ, and a pipeline construction business, Zangas.
